Macular Hole

A macular hole is a small break in the macula that can cause central vision loss.

What is a Macular Hole?

The macula is responsible for sharp, central vision. A macular hole develops when the vitreous pulls on the macula or from trauma. Symptoms include central blur, distortion, or a dark spot.

Treatment Options

Surgery (vitrectomy with membrane peel and gas bubble) is often recommended to close the hole. Recovery may include face-down positioning and close follow-up.
